A Re Ageng Forum,
a social dialogue structure held the B-BBEE Sector Charters Indaba on the 06
and 07 June 2006 at the Rustenburg Civic Centre.
The B-BBEE Sector Charters Indaba 2006 was to shape the
future of Broad- Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) in the North West
Province and furthermore to enhance the PGDS, ASGISA and economic
transformation to bring together stakeholders and role-players in the key
economic sectors to shape the future of B-BBEE in the North West Province.
Fundamental to the
indaba was the review of the five charters namely; the Financial, Tourism,
Mining, Construction and Agriculture Sector Charters. Respective
participants from the five sectors were invited to dialogue around B- BBEE
opportunities and to identify B- BBEE existing and new flagship projects to
be implemented through public-private partnerships.
Various speakers
from both Government and business organisations presented on different
issues regarding the B-BBEE in the North West Province and identifying the
opportunities and challenges each Charters provides for B-BBEE development
in the respective sectors.
The objectives of
the Indaba were to create a platform for dialogue amongst stakeholders,
enhance understanding on B-BBEE and economic transformation in general,
elicit critical viewpoints on the impact of B-BBEE as a transformation
tool, assist in giving impetus in the emergence of B-BBEE activities in the
North West province, receive the viewpoints of stakeholders, encourage
partnerships in the business sector that will lead to B-BBEE, and to give
inputs into the Provincial B-BBEE Strategy. The outcome of the indaba was to
critique the B-BBEE vis-à-vis economic transformation, to have a critical
understanding of B-BBEE and economic transformation in general amongst
participants, create a platform for open dialogue and opportunities for
like- minded stakeholders to forge partnerships and also to a clearer
understanding amongst stakeholders of their roles in actualising B-BBEE in
the province.
The North West A
re Ageng Forum, established in May 1998 as
a Social Dialogue Forum focusing on social and economic issues and bringing
together Government, Organised Private Sector, Organised Labour and
Organised Civil Society, and sees B-BBEE as a key vehicle to building a
vibrant and sustainable economy in the Province.
